Some of the toughest spots in your home to organize can be your kitchen, bathroom, and office. How do you organize these high traffic areas? I have a tip for each. Why not start in the kitchen?

Look at your refrigerator. It is probably covered in 25 mismatched magnets, some takeout menus, report cards, colored pictures, and a list of emergency phone numbers for the baby sitter. Start by taking everything off of the front and top of your refrigerator and organize it. Stack ads, coupons, and scrap papers in piles. Condense all your phone numbers to a single sheet, and put appointments into your date book. Put all your coupons in a coupon book. As for the stuff on the top, throw away old phone books and the things you do not need. Put cereals into sealed containers, and find a new spot for seasonal serving dishes that might clutter the area. Cleaning this area can be revealing. I found an old VHS from my home theater while cleaning up there once.

Next, we can go into your bathroom and tackle one of the biggest problems in there. It will only take about ten minutes. Go and sort through your over the counter and prescription medication. Throw away what has expired first. If there are prescriptions you do not use anymore, throw them out too. Avoid keeping those pain pills because you might need them later. Make sure everything is out of reach of children as well. Also inspect packaging for damage. If you take medication daily, you might put a pillbox here as well to help you stick to the recommended dosages.

The next tip is for your office, but effect the rest of your home. Go through your purse, desk, wallet, kitchen, bedroom, living room, and home theater area and see how many receipts you can gather. I would wager that there are more than you thought there would be. Next, get your shredder. If you do not have one, now is the time. Shred any receipts that you do not need. Make a file for tax deductible receipts. Keep a file of receipts from your credit card. After you pay the bill for the month, shred them and start the file over. If you are happy with the product or you do not need the receipt for one of these files, shred it.

Lastly, some people have a hard time with organization. After you get the big things taken care of, allot 30 minutes each morning to get the organization out of the way so you can get on to your life. It will only pile up again if you ignore it.
