An Invisible Barrier Of Protection

Gaylord Industries (http://www.gaylordsecurity.com/) sells home security alarm systems. Art Gib is a freelance writer.

When most people think of home security they commonly think of a security alarm system that is set up on the interior of a home to create a protective perimeter against intruders that are attempting to penetrate the home. By creating a barrier of electronic sensors that are placed at the doors and windows a home can become a safe and secure place to live.

Sensors placed on doors and windows are made up of a magnetic contact that when broken sets off the alarm. Two magnets make the connection between the framework of the door and the door itself. When the magnetic field between the two magnets is broken, by opening the door, the alarm will trigger and the sirens sound. To protect a large area with a bank of windows ADT security systems use a single glass break sensor to cover multiple windows at the same time. Unlike the magnetic sensors, glass break sensors work on a dual indicator system.

The first sensor is designed to pick up the subtle vibration of a windowpane being broken. At the point where glass breaks there is a vibration generated. By being aware of the vibration of breaking glass the first sensor signals the alarm system that there may be trouble. When the glass actually breaks the second sensor picks up the sound of the shattering glass and sounds the alarm. Only the combination of vibration and sound will trigger the alarm.

When either a glass break sensor or a door sensor is activated the security system control panel simultaneously sounds the alarm inside the house and sends out a signal through the telephone line to the systems monitoring station that then contacts the authorities. While the police are being alerted to the possible break in the monitoring station is also calling the home phone number to notify the occupants that help is on the way. By covering the windows and doors with the active sensors of an ADT home security system people are finding that they are protected by an invisible shield of security and are able to sleep better and more soundly knowing that if an intruder does try to break in that help will be sent immediately.

Police officials around the country are finding that homes with alarm systems are a deterrent for criminals and that people who do attempt to break into a house that has a security system are often caught or chased off before they can steal anything.
