Bathroom investment – what type of shower?
Essentially, there are two types of shower available: those that work independently and those that draw water off the main heating system. In my view, there is a lot to be said for the independently operating electric shower type as this means that you have instant hot water whenever required, rather than having to wait for water to be heated up by the boiler. Interior designers tend to turn their noses up at electric showers, believing them to be a design anachronism. Check out what the water pressure is and discuss the pros and cons of the different options with your plumber – you might be able to have the sleek designer look you’re after or, if you don’t have a high pressure system and a modern boiler, it might just drive you mad.
Your plumber also needs to inspect all the existing plumbing arrangements carefully in order to advise you what can and can’t be done with bathrooms and showers and give you an idea of how much it is likely to cost.
There is a vast range of showers available and most of them work perfectly well for many years. Many of them are very complicated, multifunctional affairs, but only fit these in properties aimed at rich young professionals who enjoy twiddling lots of knobs. Cheap showers are perfectly adequate in cheap properties. If you are aiming the renovation at older people, keep it simple as, generally, they do not like having to cope with complicated technology that was not around in their young day.
