Looking for the right topic for the right audience can be time consuming if you don’t know where to start. It’s not as hard as you may think to create a special-interest Chicago video. Look around you, there are probably, neighbors, friends and family that you can use in your video as a special-interest topic. For instance, you may have a daughter who is into designing fashion pieces and constantly has people asking her to create items for them. Or your neighbor who builds furniture and fixes, then sells furniture to others. Maybe even a close friend that is great at basketball and often trains people.

Picking a Topic
When you’re ready to begin looking for subjects and topics for your special-interest Chicago video, you will need to keep in mind the audience it will be created for. As you are getting prepared for the shoot, you need to write down the demographics of who would most likely view your Chicago video. It is important that you, the videographer, to consider what the audience will expect from your video. What you can do is create a profile for the various subjects and topics that you have in mind.

Divide a paper in half. On one side write down the characteristics that are important for each topic’s audience. Then on the other side, write down techniques or attributes that you may want used in the video to attract a certain group of people. Here are some examples:

Furniture Making Video
In this project, you may note that the audience could be men and women 18 years of age and older. The video would most likely be shot inside of a workshop or garage where all of the tools are available. The tone of the video should be instructional and motivational. The energy level would be methodical.

Basketball Training Video
Filming a basketball training video would likely attract an audience of men and boys 10 years old and older. The tone of the video should be edgy, yet informational. The location of the shoot could be at a local gym or basketball court. The energy level would likely be hyper to entertain the audience.

Fashion Video
This video could take place in various locations. It could be on a stage, in your living room or even outside. The audience for this video would depend on the fashion being displayed. So if the fashion is for women and girls that are between 8 and 25, then that would be the audience to aim for; similar to an advertisement. The tone would be conversational and the energy level would be hip and fun.
