If you happen to be living in a home that has a septic tank, then you might already know about all of the mess that can come from having one. Most new homes are on city sewer if it is possible, but there are still a lot of homes that have these tanks. Usually you have to have them emptied every three to five years if you have an older home. With the newer homes that have one, these tanks might be bigger so you do not have to have them emptied as often. But you can have problems with these tanks even if they are not full. If this happens you can really have a big stinky mess.
This water is so contaminated that it will kill anything in its path. The tank itself could crack or you could do some damage to it especially if you do not know where it is sitting on your land. When you move into a home that has a septic tank, make sure that you know right where it sits in your yard. Sometimes someone might bring in a lot of dirt and without knowing they will cover up the lid and then over time the weeds will grow over this as well. If this happens you might not be able to find it again without having to do a lot of digging.
If you were to buy a home and you do not like the idea of a septic tank ,you should check with your city water department to see if you are able to hook into their sewer system and water supply. If you find out that you can, you will need to bring in the professionals to empty this old tank and then it is best to tear out it out. Have this company come in and get rid of all the cement and then they will fill in this hole as well. You do not want to leave this old tank there as it is just not a good idea.
Keep track of when this tank will need to be emptied as you do not want it to become over full because it could run over the top of this tank and even back up into your home. This will help you prevent this from happening. When you have a company come out, have them check around the tank for any thing that might cause you any problems later. If they happen to find a problem they will know the best way to fix it.
