Perhaps due to the economic climate, many of us are spending more time at home and consequently, are spending more time getting our home just the way we want it. The myriad of interior design shows on the television continue to be an excellent source of inspiration and people tend to have a definite idea of what they want to do with a room when redesigning it in mind before they begin. There’s just one common sticking point: radiators.

There’s no getting away from it – radiators are ugly. They’re also immovable, meaning that your ideas for your room’s redesign will have to work around these fixed units which will almost certainly detract from the hard work you are about to put in. That’s without mentioning the fact that wall mounted radiators are one of the most inefficient ways to heat a room, making it well worth looking into alternative heating methods such as underfloor heating when redecorating.

Underfloor heating does away with the traditional fixed wall mounted radiator, giving you that extra bit of wall space which can come in very handy when redesigning your room. Without that piece of wall being ‘off limits’, you can truly design your room the way you want to. It is also a far more efficient way of heating your room as the heat rises from the most logical place – the floor.

Hot air rises and having your room’s source of heat mounted on a wall is a very inefficient way to heat the room due to this. The heat from the radiator will rise towards the ceiling and it can take a very long time for this to convect around the rest of the room, meaning that while the ceiling can be toasty, the floor can be freezing – this is a very common issue when stepping on bathroom tiles on a winter’s morning. Installing underfloor heating or similarly efficient heating method is the ideal alternative to this as the floor will always be warm and the heat from this will rise, creating a uniformly-temperatured room in a far shorter space of time, meaning that the heating bill will be lower and getting out the door in the morning will become a far swifter process.

Available for less than you may expect, the freedom of design and cheaper heating bills offered from underfloor heating are a worthwhile investment to make if you are planning to undertake a room redesign in the near future.
