The walls and ceiling are decorated with bright elaborate paintings of kings. Rooms are decorated with large, ornately carved furniture. Sheer draperies hang from the beds as protection from bugs. Enormous chandeliers hang from the ceiling to light the way through this monstrous castle.
Historical architecture and interior design were so intertwined with each other that it is impossible to have one without the other. With only natural material to work with and no mass reproduction available, sculptors, painters and seamstresses were contracted to work in these elaborate dwellings. Often it would take years to complete the design of one room.
The Parthenon, Cathedrals and castles took upwards of 20 or more years to complete. More often than not in this period, the original architect would not live to see his work complete. Fortunately for the original craftsman, they could teach young apprentices the skills that they needed to complete the projects. And if an apprentice could not be found, the monuments would stand until another very capable architect and interior designer came and reclaimed the building’s intended glory.
