Have you ever been in your home or some other building that happened had a broken water main? These pipes are usually bigger than others. These pipes hold a lot of water and are under a lot of pressure. When one of these pipes break the water is sent every where in all directions. There can also big a huge hole when the pressure is shut down. Main water lines that leak or rupture can cause sink holes,

The pipes on some of these mains could be 50 years old or more. They will probably have had several tons of dirt put over them several times over several years. All of this puts pressure on these old pipes and over time the begin to crack and break. You might not even realize that you have this water problem until you can not get water through your pipes leading into your home. Most of the time it is up to the city to come out and fix these pipes, but if the pipe is on your property, it will fall on you to pay for the repairs.

Repairs to a main water line can be expensive and if you have no insurance it most surely will be. If the damage is not on the outside, it could be on the inside. This water could find its way down into your basement or into the crawl space under the home and when allowed to sit there. It will cause the beams to rot. These rotten beams This can cause a chain of events. Not only will the floors be damaged, but mold is likely to develop as well.

If you notice a drop in your water pressure that continues over a period of time, you could have a leak or rupture to a pipe inside the home, under you home, or it could be a problem with the main water line. If you can not find one inside or outside you home, check with your neighbors if you have any and see if they are experiencing low water pressure too. If you are and they are, chances are good that there is a water line problem that the city or county should check into. If there is a ruptured line found somewhere, it could mean that you will be out of water for a day or two until they can find the rupture and get it repaired.
