Your yard can be a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the outdoors, but as you probably know, keeping it that way takes a lot of upkeep and care. Mowing the lawn, trimming the lawn, edging the lawn, weeding the flower beds, spraying plants that creep up through concrete or asphalt, watering the lawn, plants and trees: all of these are things that must be done to keep your yard looking nice. But more importantly, these are things that must be maintained to make sure your yard doesn’t become a hazardous area.

One of the biggest hazards that can come from a neglected yard is a dead tree. You may not realize that your tree is dying until it’s too late. A strong wind can cause a dead tree to topple over. This is especially dangerous if a tall tree is located near your home. If a strong wind comes through it can cause the dead tree to crash onto the roof of your house causing expensive damage. Another hazard is letting your trees grow too wild, especially if there are power lines nearby. The roots of overgrown trees can also cause damage to sidewalks and underground sewer systems. The hazard is doubled if it’s an overgrown dying tree near power lines in a windstorm. If you find this is the case, you may want to employ the services of a tree removal company. A tree removal company will come and clear your tree of excess branches and safely remove the trunk so that there is no damage to your home or property.

One of the biggest problems with a dead tree is the stump. Because of the root system in place and the sheer weight of the stump, trying to remove it yourself is next to impossible. Fortunately, there are solutions. Most tree removal companies also have options for stump grinding. A stump grinder is a machine that uses high speed disks with teeth that grind the stump and its roots into pieces that can be easily removed.

Another yard hazard is a neglected wood fence. Like a neglected tree, an old and rotting fence can become a hazard in a windstorm. It can also be a hazard to a child if it has exposed rusty nails or if there are damaged parts of the fence that can cause slivers. If you have an old wooden fence that is beyond repair, you might want to consider having it replaced with a vinyl or chain link fence.

There might be other hazards like wasps nests, loose nails and screws, and poisonous plants. For this reason, it is always important to keep your maintained in order to eliminate potential hazards.
