External extraction has fewer drawbacks than all of the other techniques. It is often called warm water extraction, hot water extraction or steam cleaning. It is the cleaning method all carpet manufacturers and cleaners recommend. This is cleaning method is classified as deep cleaning. The others are considered light surface cleaning because they can’t remove soil deep in the carpet. This method is called steam cleaning due because of the fine mist of water used to force dirt out of the carpet which is sucked up by the vacuum slot immediately in front of the spray.
