Since there have been many advances in tool technology, now making a choice is a bit harder. If you are looking for your very first nail gun, it can be a bit confusing, since there are many different types for you to choose from. With all the different options to choose from, it can be difficult to choose a good nail gun for home improvement use. Here we’ll look at power options, various sizes of nail guns, sticks and coils, and more.

Different Types of Power

When you are trying to understand the difference between nail guns, you have to understand that there are different types of power used for different nail guns. There are pneumatic nail guns that get their power from a compressor, and these are very popular today. They provide a great amount of power, but some people don’t want to be attached to the compressor, so they look for other options.

There are combustion powered nailers as well, which use gas to give the nail gun its’ power. For tough jobs, these are often a good choice. Electricity powers some nail guns, and they come in corded or cordless options and are best for jobs that are on the light side.

Different Nail Gun Sizes

There are different sizes of nail guns, and they are classified by the projectile size they have and by the specific type of work that they are supposed to do. Five different options are available to you in nail guns, including finish nailers, brad nailers, roofing nailers, flooring nailers, and framing nailers. Consider what these types of nailers are designed to do, and purchase the one for the jobs you’ll need to do at home.

Coils vs. Sticks

Another difference in nail guns is the way that the nails are fed into them. There are some that use a stick method of feeding the gun, loading it with a long stick of nails that has 20-40 nails in it. Coil guns will hold a whole lot more nails in them, and some can hold as many as 300 at a time. They are loaded in a coal format, in a magazine that is round, and the nails are wired all together, and then fired in much the same way as an old Tommy gun.

There are definitely different types of nail guns out there that you can choose from. Now that you understand the type of power, size, and the different loading styles, it makes it easier to know what you are working with and what you need to choose for the home improvement at hand.
